Oh boy! The end of August means the beginning of another term of college. Most college students are used to being taken advantage of. I would have used a far more severe and vulgar word, but I’d like to lie to myself and believe that this site has risen above such things. First we pay for tuition, then we pay for books, then we pay for parking. The list goes on. The tuition fees are typically the same or similar each semester, so those aren’t really surprises. Sure I don’t like them, but I’m used to them (plus I have a scholarship, so I don’t really see those). The second thing which really chaps me is the cost of books. I just bought two text books, and the total came to a whopping $284.00. Hearing the total was like a slap in the face, or possibly even a more accurate analogy of making friends in prison. Ouch. That’s a lot of money. Usually text books are expensive, and that is not fun, but they are rarely that expensive. Leaving the book store, a light bulb much like the one pictured in this article appeared above my head. I had an idea! It was so clear. Why stand here and allow the book publishers to force themselves upon me? Why not force myself upon others? It was then I decided that I needed to get in on this action, and write a text book! I could imagine the smiling faces of the poor (double meaning) students purchasing my amazingly written and amazingly expensive book. I could also imagine the look on my face as the cash rolled in.
